About Woodall Nicholson
“Quality Built for life”
“At Woodall Nicholson, it’s not merely a slogan, but an overriding philosophy that drives the company forward. A philosophy that keeps customers coming back, again and again. As with most things in life, if you put a lot in, you get a lot out. Woodall Nicholson vehicles are no exception! It is therefore no surprise that our vehicles continue to perform well for the whole of their considerable lifetime.
“If you shop around, you may be able to buy a cheaper vehicle, but when you compare the whole life costs of operating that vehicle, you will not beat us on value for money!”
Woodall Nicholson is one of the oldest established coachbuilding companies in the UK, dating right back to the 1820’s, when its major market was the building of horse-drawn hansom cabs and carriages.
Through the years the company, which was originally founded in the Yorkshire town of Halifax, has maintained its reputation for classical coachwork whilst being associated with all the famous marques, including in the first half of the 20th century – Rolls-Royce , Daimler, Humber, Jaguar and Austin.
In the latter half of the century, with the demise of seperate chassis on cars, the Group has concentrated on vehicles from the Ford, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, Rolls-Royce and Saab ranges.
>> Diversified Into Other Areas
Despite its long heritage, today Woodall Nicholson Limited is a very forward-looking Group with three major operating divisions – Coleman Milne, Mellor Coachcraft and CM Specialist Vehicle Division, each specialising in a different market sector. Although the coachbuilding traditions are still continued as an important part of the Group’s activities, Woodall Nicholson has diversified into many other areas, such that it is no longer dependent on the temperament of one single market.
>> Capital Investment
As well as acknowledging the importance of craftsmanship and engineering skills to its operators, Woodall Nicholson recognises that a substantial capital investment programme is vital to maintain high levels of productivity and deliver value for money to its customers. For this reason, the Group has continued to invest heavily into all its operating sites, especially in plant, machinery, computer systems and paint technology.
>> High Skill Levels & Expertise
Today, Woodall Nicholson Ltd is a substantial, broadly based company with over 200 employees and a turnover in excess of £30 million per annum. All our manufacturing sites operate to stringent ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standards, which ensure high build quality for its products. In addition, comprehensive staff development and training programs exist to maintain the high skill levels and expertise that keeps Woodall Nicholson in front of its competitors.
>> Market Leader
The success of this policy is demonstrated by the fact that, through its divisions – Mellor Coachcraft is the undisputed market leaders in the supply of accessible buses, coaches and mini-buses to local authorities and health authorities across the UK. Equally Coleman Milne continues the fine traditions of Woodall Nicholson as the largest and longest established supplier of Coachbuilt limousines, hearses and specialist vehicles in Great Britain.
>> Excellent Service To Customers
Expertise and experience runs throughout the three divisons forming the Group. All the directors and senior managers are from technical, engineering and commercial backgrounds, which helps them to understand and control the business in depth, as well as to deliver an excellent service to customers.
The line management team too has similar broad-based experience, allied with strong project management skills, which gives the Group the flexibility to undertake everything from one-off prototype work through to mass production.
>> Integrating New Ventures
Although the Woodall Nicholson name has traditionally been associated with coachbuilding and vehicle engineering, the Group’s facilities, skills and management experience are equally relevant to a wide range of other products and industries.
With a highly motivated loyal staff and workforce, the Group has the capabilities to react quickly to changes in market conditions, and to refine production methods in the continued search for higher levels of efficiency.
