New Coleman Milne Fleet For A. Abbott & Sons (Rushden) Ltd
06 October 2006

After 121 years serving the needs of the local people in Rushden, Northants. A Abbott & Sons (Rushden) Ltd can look back with pride on a continuous history as a family owned Independent Funeral Directors. Originally established in 1885 as carriage masters, Asher Abbott kept up to 15 horses in his stables at Bedford Road, Rushden. They were used for funerals and for factory outings by local business people, as well as private hire (The local Fire Station had a fire pump but no horses! They borrowed horses from Abbott's when needed!)

Today the company is ably managed by the fourth generation of the Abbott family, Michael & Jonathan with Mrs Patricia Abbott still very much involved on a part time basis, each week.

The horses and the stables are long gone, but the new offices, chapel & garages are still situated on the same site as originally used by Asher Abbott over a century ago. From the horse drawn carriages of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the company has recently purchased a fleet of the latest air-conditioned Mercedes based vehicles from Coleman Milne. Mrs Patricia Abbott and her son Jonathon took delivery of the new vehicles and are looking forward to putting them through their paces.
