James Giles & Sons Ltd
25 May 2007

There can be few Funeral Directors who have details of every funeral that they've carried out since they started in business at the beginning of the last century. James Giles & Sons Ltd are the exception!

In 1916 James Giles set up in business as a builder / joiner in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire. Three years later the company also became undertakers and carried out their first funeral for the princely sum of ᆪ6 7s 6d! During that first year they carried out a total of just 39 funerals.

Sadly, James himself died when he was just 42 years old, and his eldest son Fred took over at the age of 21 years, to be joined by his younger brothers, Les and Bert, as the business continued to grow.

Today, this successful independent company is run by the 3rd and 4th generations of the family, Ray, James, Adrian, Gareth and Neil.

In addition to a flourishing funeral business, they have built up their operation as carriage masters, they now supply hearses and limousines to Funeral Directors throughout the Midlands. In addition Rays Wife Jacqueline offers a professional catering service to clients of James Giles and Sons and other local Funeral Directors.

The company's relationship with Coleman Milne goes back more than 2 decades and continues into the future with the recent delivery of their new hearse and 3 limousines, based on the latest Saab 95 range.
