Roy Quinton Funeral Directors
16 July 2008

It was 23 years ago, that Roy Quinton began his career as a funeral director, at a company based in Birmingham. Five years later, one of the big groups bought the business. Roy decided that it was time to leave and start his own company as an Independent Funeral Director who could offer a personal service to families in the West Midlands. Roy Quinton Funeral Directors opened its doors for the first time in Bloxwich Road, Leamore, near Walsall. His son, Brett, joined him in the new family company. Initially, They hired Daimler DS 420s to carry out their funerals, but the business expanded so quickly that they soon had to purchase a fleet of their own. Logically these were also Daimler DS 420s

Within 3 years, Roy could see an opportunity to expand the company, and he opened a second office in nearby Tettenhall Wood, Wolverhampton. His wife Sharon, was also now very involved in the family business, As the number of funerals carried out increased, the need for a 2nd fleet of vehicles was recognised, and he purchased a pair of Daimler XJ 1200s.

In 2003 a further opportunity arose when he was able to acquire a shop, which was situated very close to the local Crematorium. The new office in Bushbury was an instant success and has continued to grow year by year.

Earlier this year, Roys son Scott, also joined the family business. He had been in the trade since leaving school firstly, as a mortician at the local hospital then carrying out post mortems at the police mortuary. He had by then gained his qualifications as an embalmer and a mortician.

When Scott joined the company, he felt that a complete review of the funeral vehicles was due. They now had a 1st fleet of Daimler X3000s as well as a Vauxhall Hearse & Limousine. Initially they tried the Coleman Milne, Mercedes based demonstrators for a week, and were suitably impressed with the practicality and the image they projected. However, some years earlier, Roy had tried the Ford Fairlane based demonstrators from Coleman Milne, and had been particularly impressed with the Cardinal Hearse. As a result, he requested the Ford Demonstrators for a few days. Unfortunately they were fully committed for the weeks ahead and so when he was offered a pair of late used Ford Mk10s to try, he readily accepted. By his own admission, he was astounded at the reaction of the public to the Fords! In just that 1 week of using them, he received more comments from the public about the vehicles than any of the other funeral fleet he had tried! His own drivers also loved them. So, in Roys own words In effect, the public chose the vehicles!

The new fleet was delivered in May and is shown in our photograph. Ends For more Information Contact Bev Gowen Coleman Milne Wigan Road Westhoughton Bolton BL5 2EE Notes for Editor
